On April 21, a group of community volunteers comprised of local businesses and philanthropists called the “Jefferson Adopters” gathered for a celebration breakfast along with local VIP’s for the 25th year. The Jefferson Adopters consists of the following organizations that provide vital support and scholarships to Jefferson Elementary School in Green Bay: Festival Foods, Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance, BMO Harris Bank, Nsight/Cellcom, Sunrise Optimists, and the Greater Green Bay Kiwanis Club.
During the breakfast, the following deserving Jefferson students were honored with $1,500 college scholarships: Derek Thepphone, Samuel Yang, and Ayanna Vongsouvanh. These students were chosen from an essay they wrote.
East High School senior and Jefferson graduate Courtney Love was also presented with the scholarship that she earned in fifth grade as a Jefferson student. Former Jefferson student and high school senior Chue Chang also returned from Minnesota to claim his scholarship.
To date, the Jefferson Adopters have granted scholarships to students totaling approximately $31,000. In addition, the group “adopts” each of the 11 classrooms at Jefferson Elementary and places volunteers in the classrooms each week for a minimum of one hour. The Adopters also help to fund school field trips for students and holiday events. Thank you Adopters for all you do for us!
